The Big Board Takes a Break

Hi all,

A different style of post today, and one I’ve been procrastinating for a while now. I want to let you all know that there won’t be a 2023 Big Board.

This isn’t a full goodbye for now, but at least for this year, I just won’t have the bandwidth to maintain the tool at a level that I (or you all) would be happy with. That said, I first want to thank everyone that has followed me and my work for such a long time now. Some of you, all the way back to the freeware Excel version first released on the fantasy baseball subreddit, after I saw Zach Sanders’ 2011 z-score posts on Fangraphs and decided I could try making a tool from that. There are always newer and better tools coming up every year, but I’ve been proud of what the Big Board tool has been able to do and I’ve always loved seeing all the great feedback from you all after winning leagues, turning around a dynasty squad, etc.

Sorry to those that will be disappointed by this news. For now, I’m making the call to take the ~10% hours spent on this project during draft season and instead try to be 10% better at my job, a 10% better Dad, a 10% better homeowner (why are there so many house projects to do..?). It may be the case that life settles down next year and I’ll be back, but for now this is where I’m at.

Again, thank you all for your support throughout the years. Looking forward to the ‘23 season – if you’re looking for a league, come join us over at /r/SultansOfStats !

Best,

Ryan

  1. Not sure how much time it would take (so feel free to tell me to kick rocks), but any chance you’d do something like Mr. Cheatsheets did last year and just put out one release with the caveat there will be no updates after version 1 is released!? I’d imagine people would understand this and still be excited to have the best draft tool in the game!! 🤞

Wish I could! If I pushed the rock that far up the hill, I would just go ahead and finish it – getting everything ready to go for the year and reasonably polished is a major part of the work unfortunately.

  2. Good luck with life, it must come first. As a long time fan, I’m just wondering if there are any tools you would recommend as a substitute for those who have relied on you in years past. Your endorsement would mean a lot.
